Bongo Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Hey folks, my band and i are diving into a punk-funk vibe with our latest tune, and we're craving a slap bassline with a thick groove. While I've nailed the technique, writer's block is hitting hard. Any tips to break through, writing normal finger style basslines arent a struggle but this is a whole diffrent world for me. Thanks a ton in advance. Quote
Beedster Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 I'd start by trying to play the finger style basslines you've written using slap. It'll probably sound crude at first but as you get more into the lines you'll find that using slap brings new ideas and options to what was a fingerstyle line Quote

In essence yes, same notes & same timing to start with, with as much of the originally fingerstyle part slapped or popped as is reasonably possible, see how things work, and then adapt as necessary Quote
