Rayman
Here's a few pics of my latest acquisition, a 1978 Fender Precision care of Paul. All original we think, apart from the chrome pickup cover which was just added by me. Very happy with it indeed, but a couple of gigs should give me a better indication of sound. It seems punchy actually, admittedly it has a new set of Super Slinkys on it, but it certainly has some nice attack to it. Definitely keeping the pickup covers on it, and apart from the Dunlop straplocks (I've kept the original buttons of course) it'll absolutely stay exactly as is. Shame my lovely Overwater had to go to pay for it, but, needs must. Don't ask me if it's a keeper, many of you know me by now, and know that I can't answer that, but I'm very happy with it. GreeneKing
It strikes me that a P bass tone like the one this bass delivers is fundamentally awesome Fingers crossed.

Rayman
I haven't forgoten mate. Like I said, with my track record for turning stuff over, I could never hand on heart say anything is for ever, but I do like this bass an awful lot, so I live in hope. How are you getting on with the Shuker/ACG basses you went to check out?

Seriously I hope the bass is a keeper and I'm delighted you're getting on with it.
Jean-Luc Pickguard
Is that a super-heavy ash body like my P bass from the same era?
King Tut
Yeah - I was wondering about the weight!
Rayman
It's got some weight to it yeah, but not bad really, after the Overwater which was a bit of a beast this is quite nice in comparison.

Rayman
Eh thenk yoo.......... Rehearsal with it tonight, and we rehearse at gig volume, so I'll get a good idea of how it will sound. Looking forward to tonight a lot.
Dr.Dave
It looks like it wants bullying - hit it like a ginger stepchild I remember you being hardly a short fella and I can picture you charging about with this. Middle leg joints of a black and yellow insect to me mate - old sunburst P , leave me alone! Bet you now - once you put a few marks on it yourself it's a keeper. Every tool kit needs a big 'f**k off' hammer !
AM1
That's absolutely beautiful...as I bet the tone is. But I'd whip those covers off in a flash...get it naked!!!
MuseMatt
even though I'm not a sunburst lover (I prefer the more subtle tobacco-burst) this one is looking great. It looks vintage in the perfect way!
Rayman
Thanks everyone for that. Well I realize the covers aren't for everybody, but I like the vintage vibe, so for now they're staying on. Yes Dave, I do like to charge about a bit, and at one time it'd be below waist level being swung in all directions, but I've melowed in my old age, and it's at stomach height and I'm a bit more subdued. After rehearsing with it a couple of nights ago, I can tell you it's without doubt the best Precision I've had my hands on, no question, and that surprised me. I'd expected a nice old bass, but not a tone monster too, and that's what it is. Steve Harris & JJ Burnel rolled into one, just what I was after. I daren't even hint at whether or not it's a keeper, I'm a totally hopeless case when GAS hits me, and I was really gutted to let the Overwater go to buy this, but I'm skint, so I had to. Am I glad? F*** yes. Thanks to Paul for selling it to me, and I'm afraid mate it won't be coming back to you anytime soon. This bass is exactly what I was after. It's a total stonker. lozbass
Well done - gorgeous, I have to say I think you did the right thing. You can't go far wrong with an old P

My old '73 is more mellow/smooth which I prefer. Here's a bit more Precision porn.
Rayman
Oh yes, I think I'll have to have that one too .
