Burns-bass Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Yesterday I did a gig (3 x 30-40 minute sets). Turns out each pluck of a double bass string registered as a step on my watch. During the gig it counted just over 14,000. I was quite impressed. 2 11 Quote
Beedster Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 That’s either some busy double bass playing or a hell of a long gig? Or Jazz 😀 Quote

Burns-bass Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 If I did 3 x 45 sets, that’s 135 minutes of playing, so an average of 100 plucks a minute. It’s uptempo retro blues and jazz (120bpm) so that sounds about right. 2 Quote

I tend to hold firm at around 1/10 that unless there’s some serious cash on the table 😆 Quote

Watch used was a Garmin Forerunner 45. Here is the activity record… Quote
Burns-bass Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 The two plateaus are the time off during sets. Quote

I’m right handed but have always worn my watch on my right arm. (I bat and play golf left handed which is why!) I’m guessing a man as fit and active as you probably has a cheapo fitness tracker somewhere, stick it on your right hand and give it a go. Quote
Burns-bass Posted June 3, 2024 Author Posted June 3, 2024 I would test it now but the kids are doing their homework! Will try tomorrow and see what happens. Quote
tinyd Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 It's satisfying how the number of "steps" tallies pretty closely with your calculation about the BPM and duration of the music! Only way to know for sure is to play a three hour bebop set at 250bpm and see if the numbers go correspondingly higher Quote
Burns-bass Posted June 22, 2024 Author Posted June 22, 2024 I did the same today. Pre gig: and post gig: Quote
Downunderwonder Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 Slacker only played 12000 notes! Dock his pay! 1 Quote
