Mustang gigbags - again!

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I thought it might be time to revisit the age-old question of gigbags for the Mustang bass. It seems a near impossible problem to solve to full satisfaction, and I don’t understand why Fender won’t simply… make one. What is the bass community’s current take on this issue? Hit me, internet!

I bought this from DV247

FBSS610 Short-Scale Bass Gig-Bag (Black)

it was 31 quid. It's not the heaviest duty thing, but my gear only goes in and out of my car, so it's ok for me

Andertons have them at 38 quid

GAK have something at 30 quid

  • Rich changed the title to Mustang gigbags - again!

I have the Fender SS bag, a Protection Racket one (now discontinued I think) and 2 Maruszczyks. The Fender is the best fit of the bunch.

Fender used to make one called the urban short scale gig bag. I have a pair of them which I use with my JMJ mustangs.

They're not particularly heavy duty but for any gig/rehearsal where I can put my basses on the back seat of my car, they're perfect.

The grab handle on the front is a great convenience when you have a bunch of bits & pieces to carry for load in/out.

I use a Mono Sleeve guitar case for my Mustang and it works great. Not the cheapest case, but it is great for most short scale basses. I kind of wish I bought the Mono m80 instead as it is a bit more sturdy so that would be my recommendation.

All my shorties - Mustang, Dano Longhorn, SG, EB3 - fit into Thomann E Guitar Deluxe gig bags, which cost the princely sum of £26.  A bargain if you happen to be buying other things.  More protection than the Fender gig bag, which I was less than impressed with. https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_gigbag_deluxe_egitarre.htm

This. I have the Sleeve as well and although it's a tight squeeze with the headstock, it fits just fine.

If you want a wearable gig bag but with a bit more padding and shock resistance, have a look at this one

I use mine a fair bit, although it's quite bulky. I also have the fender gig bag which is of course much lighter and better for a very short trip.

This works well for me:

Gator G-PG ACOUSTIC Pro Go Series Acoustic Guitar Gig-Bag

You can usually get them through Amazon.

+1

My Mustang fits in this perfectly well, and I like that it's a Fender bag of good quality.

Just seen a post on the Mustang FB group page, by someone who bought one, that the Gator Jazzmaster bag, mentioned above, is a good fit.

  • 4 months later...

I recently received a Fender FBSS610 as it was included with my sienna sunburst player mustang bass. It seems to be at least as good as my trusty urban short scale bass gig bags.

I really like the bag that came with my US acoustasonic jazzmaster, it seems like it offers almost a hard case level of protection. I believe it is a  Fender FE1225, however it is internally around an inch or so too short to accommodate a mustang bass. There is a version for long scale bass called the FB1225, but if a short scale bass version was available I would definitely buy two.
