six-string bridge

I have a project in mind.  Can I use a six-string guitar bridge for a bass, or do basses need a different design (weight, strength, size, ...)?

Saddles for the string guage, and string spacing would be the main consideration...

A Guitars 42 or 46 Low E is the same gauge as a Bass G...

Even a Ultra Extra Light Bass E at say 90 is unlikely to fit that well in a Guitar 6 bridge...

What sort of guitar bridge?

 

There are many different designs. Some might be suitable others might not.

 

How much modification are you prepared to undertake?

 

Also having owned a couple of Bass VIs with what are essentially guitar bridges I've found that the string spacing is far too tight for comfort with bass strings fitted.

Thanks, gentlemen.  A BBOT would be adequate for my first hack at it - I foresee this being one of those things which I spend far too much money on for very little practical return, and my ignorance means it will probably require a couple of goes.
