I've been tasked to learn this top tune by this Thursday, i have more or less got it because it's not that hard even for me. My problem is getting the tone right in the slap part,i just can't seem to emulate that sound he gets on this part. It's a really growly tone for those not familiar.

This is the gear i am working with ATM

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

sansamp bass driver.

Sire Jazz v5 strung with DR Pure Blues Rounds which great to be fair.only 3 weeks olds.

?Anyone of you Guru's got any pointers to assist.

I always assumed it was a bassballs

sort of a light filter with some drive.

i used a mooer sweeper for it on some gigs a few years ago…there or thereabouts sound wise.

I must admit, I was doing my typical “that’s close enough” rather than nailing the tone…

Envelope filter on mild settings, not too much quack, and crush the hell out of it with compression.

It's a while since I've heard it but don't remember any distortion or overdrive but if there is I'm sure your Sansamp would cover it.

Tried but to no avail with the sansamp.

I use an Electro Harmonix Small Stone phaser + a little chorus and I've been assured by other bassists that it pretty much nails the sound... but other options would work equally as well!  :)
