Tim2291
Hoping someone can help, I replaced the neutrik jack plug on my ibanez btb recently. Being lazy, I took a wire off at a time and replaced it on the new one without checking... guessing they changed the pin layout 🤣, the bass works but is constantly live so the batteries drain. I have a feeling I have the ground and the tip the wrong way round. Can anyone confirm if it would still make noise if this was the case? Also, if anyone has a wiring diagram for an ibanez btb 1205e with the bartolini pickups and preamp at all they could share I'd really appreciate it! gary mac
I'm assuming you're talking about a jack with three lugs? If that's the case then you need to swap the two black wires around.
tauzero
It will probably follow Bartolini's own wiring diagram, somewhere on https://bartolini.net/wiring-diagrams/. The battery negative needs to go to one of the ring and sleeve, the ground needs to go to the other. There is a convention (not always adhered to) of which goes to which but it only matters if you're using wirelesses which charge via the jack plug (Boss WL-20 IIRC). Also, check you haven't got a solder bridge somewhere or a wisp of wire bridging the two. A multimeter would help.

The battery negative goes to sleeve (usually) and ground to ring. When you plug in a jack, sleeve is joined to ring and the battery is in circuit. According to Bartolinis diagram, the battery negative should be connected to the ring and the ground to the sleeve, this is the opposite of what I had so I have switched them over which will hopefully solve the issue... Well, you can do it either way round, what's important is that when ring and sleeve are connected by a jack plug, battery negative and ground are joined together. tauzero
If you're using a Boss WL-20 wireless, it needs ground to sleeve and battery to ring. That's about the only time that it matters. https://www.boss.info/uk/support/by_product/wl-20_wl-20l/support_documents/cf786345-1dd0-46c3-a2ac-350bfb4a8104/
