MuddBass Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 (edited) Hi All, I am collating a list of pop songs the have had contrasting versions recorded by the same artist (e.g. same band or artist, recording the same song but with a different genre / approach). An example is below - My Guy, Mary Wells, Motown + Funk versions. I'd appreciate any other suitable examples - thanks! Edited June 17, 2024 by MuddBass Quote
LeftyJ Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Coldplay comes to mind, with their latin version of Clocks. 1 Quote
neepheid Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Might be stretching the definition of "pop" here but Nirvana, "Polly" off Nevermind and "(New Wave) Polly" off Insesticide? 3 Quote
neepheid Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Queen, "We Will Rock You", and Queen, "We Will Rock You" 3 Quote
neepheid Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I think I've missed the word "cover" here. These are original songs, then done in a different way by the same artist. Sorry. 1 Quote

Jonesy Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Clutch - The Regulator. Here's the regular version.... And this is the acoustic version. Although I reckon 'the blusier version' is probably a better name for it..... 1 Quote
Dad3353 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Grateful Dead..? It's hard to find any two renditions of any of their songs, original or covers, that are even similar, let alone the same. That's one of their charms; 'never the same twice'. Here's just an example amongst many : Dark Star... 1 Quote

SPHDS Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 The one (or would that be two.....!?!) that come to mind for me (albeit one is a '.......and........') are.... And...... I prefer the 'Fast' Version......my old guitarist, the 'Slow'......so we were going to do a mash up of both.......until the drummer threw a tantrum and quit over not being able to go to the beach......but that is another story.....! 2 Quote
MacDaddy Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Same band. The original version And after Trevor Horn got his hands on it 2 Quote
