Sorry, excessive question marks in the title lead to bleeding eyes and a small amount of anger at people doing stupid things.

Right, first things first. Leave your opinon about "first" basses at the door, and don't pick it up next time you walk past it. A modern budget bass will be pefectly fine for almost anything you can throw at it.

The Vintage V4 gets good reviews on here, and I can speak for a substantial amount of people when I say the Squier (note the spelling) are brilliant basses for £200. The Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe basses are better than Fender's Mexican basses.

Here, have some reading material, basschatters reviews of the Squier Vintage Modified Precision:
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12694 ('57 style, aka, modern p-bass)
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=111 (Telebbass version with the large silver humbucker at the neck)

The only Squiers you have to avoid are the Affinity series, and even then, if you can find a good one they're still good beaters.

Have a look at these recent threads. They should give you some ideas...
Any reason? The Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe ranges are well-respected instruments, with quite a few people preferring them over "genuine" MIM or MIA Fenders.
When i said not squire i meant the affinity range, i need a quality instrument that will last me, i will take a look into the vintage and classic thanks

Well, i can vouch for the Squier Vintage Modified, because i have one. A fretless - its bloody amazing for the price. I picked up an unmarked, ' never left the house or seen a gig ' sample in Sunbursty for £150.

Behold! The VM range:
http://www.squierguitars.com/products/sear...emodifiedseries
And the Classic Vibe series:
http://www.squierguitars.com/products/sear...assicvibeseries
P and J in each range, but they're just... different. No "better" or "worse".

If you're coming from guitar, you might be more comfortable with the Jazz neck: slimmer all round than the P, with a tighter string spacing down by the nut.

I concur wholeheartedly. I've had my VMJ fretless for two days, and it's fast becoming my go-to bass. Just lovely.

In a nutshell, yes. :)

The "Search" link up top there ^^^^ is very useful.

I came from playing guitar for 6 years to bass and the first bass I bought was the VMJ Squier. It just felt more natural than the telebass I tried. I also have a 71 Fender Musicmaster (shortscale) which is a joy to play too and the scale is great if you've come from the world of guitar :)

and the Wiki, also up there at the top ..
Many of the questions you are thinking of asking have been addressed there :)

The search is a tad unwieldy but if you go to the bit of the forum dealing with teh stuff you are interested in, bass guitars, for example, there is a search at bottom left that is specific to that bit..

If you don't find stuff, ask again. Someone will know or point you to bits where it's explained or discussed ...

The classic vibe is generally regarded as being slightly better in terms of build quality and hardware, the vm and classic vibe series both do p bass and jazz models , these two are quite highly regarded Classic vibe jazz Classic vibe precision

I always maintain that you can gig with any bass providing it isn't damaged in some way like a badly bowed neck or faulty electronics.

In fact I would happily accept a dare for someone to give me the worst pile of garbage they could and I will do an entire gig with it.

Before I got my gold Warmoth I did several gigs with one of these although not the same colour I would add:

I'd like to know an actual fact-based opinion in the Vintage V4 Vs Squier Classic 60's Vibe P-bass. No fanboying, just facts please. I'm considering which one to buy and I want good quality that doesn't break my bank account.

Go and try them. Then you can make up your own mind, free of "fanboying" ☺️

I’ve had one of the original CV Precisions, and a Tony Butler Sig V4. If I had to say which felt more substantial I’d go for the V4, it just had a more “reassuring” feel about it, but then that may be due to being modelled on a 70s Precision, they were quite chunky! That’s not to put down the CV though. Both basses sounded great, and played great too. I’d say the best way to choose between them is go for the colour you like most as aside from the “which would I choose to hit someone with” factor there really wasn’t enough between them to recommend one over the other.

No, it won't, if you are in a Who tribute band.

Otherwise, certainly it will hold together, plenty of old 50's Fenders about and, that Vintage will be better nailed together.

Tbf, life in a Clash tribute band is more risky for a P bass...

I have Vintage SG copy. Its excellent, cant fault the build or intonation. I gig it when playing 6 string.
