Oh good. I was wondering if I'd somehow been playing bass for over 20 years and not noticed people doing this on the regular.

I suspect the reason for mounting the strings that way was so that he could turn all the tuners in the same direction to raise/lower the pitch. Looks weird, though and is likely to increase wear rate of the nut on the D and G strings, especially if he's using rounds.

It’s the actual batshit string winding and not the headstock then 😂

That's the proper way, right? That's the way my two Spectors are done. That's the way I've done any 2+2.

I was thinking “what I thought 2+2 headstocks were fairly common on Spector basses in fact don’t I have one upstairs?” 😂
