Physiotherapists and/or osteopaths London area with a leaning to musicians

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to find a physiotherapist or osteopath in the London/South East area that has a specialism for dealing with musicians.

Pre pandemic I had a bit of a network of orchestral players ( I was a technician for their instruments), but I'm well out of that world now so not able to ask who they were able to use through their orchestras

Has anyone on here got any pointers either from direct experience or through acquaintances.

Woodwind is my primary musical voice, but I want to do more bass playing going forward and have some old tendon injuries that are becoming a problem with bass practice. I'd very much like to work with a specialist with my instrument in hand to see what can be done.

I'm not going to waste my time with the NHS route nor go by Google results.

Thanks in advance

Thomas

When I was in London I used to use this guy:

He was excellent - specialised in ballet and performance related problems but  did an excellent job on my more climbing related injuries...

Excellent thank you!!!

When I was a teacher of the Alexander Technique, back in the 1980's,  I worked extensively with orchestral musicians in Scotland and London. Kept quite a few of them going. I would refer to osteopaths etc when necessary.

It has certainly helped me with bass and guitar playing-I don't have any of the physical complaints that many musicians suffer from, just a lack of talent.

I would certainly recommend AT as a possible source of useful input for any musician.

Gerald Lamb at https://www.osteopathnorthwood.co.uk/about-us/ fixed me up after I was knocked down by a double decker bus. My upper body was so out of alignment that it took a few sessions but he did a brilliant job.

He also did great work for my stepdaughter and wife following a car crash in 1998. Sadly he's not in central London anymore but I'd still travel out to Northwood for treatment by him. Definitely recommended 👍
