Rimskidog
Heheh. That reminds me... I need to book an appointment for my superfast broadband! Slightly out of order but, just so that you cans see the work that went in prior to the window being fitted... First the old plasterboard was cut down and tidied up: Then it was rockwooled and plasterboarded: and this time with a bit more attention to detail: and then each board was sealed with an acoustic sealant:

charic
ATCs are now fitted properly and up and running. They sound awesome!
So which school do the ATCs fall into? Incredibly accurate, colour in a pleasant way or if it sounds good on them they'll sound good anywhere. And what made you puck them :-)

Rimskidog
Very detailed, accurate and fast. I've worked on ATCs before. That's why I picked em!

That's why I picked em!
Interesting, what's the closest mainstream monitor that they could be compared too? I've seen Genelecs compared similarly although whether that's actually true or not remains to be seen from my side of things (not enough experience on them, maybe about a year)
Rimskidog
ATCs are very mainstream. The big US scoring studios tend to use them almost exclusively. Dynaudio is another common main. The big difference between genelec mains and ATC ones are that you can mix on ATCs. The big genelecs tend to be about impressing clients and checking they'll be fine on big club speakers. Rimskidog
As I've mentioned before, budget is getting a little tight at this point. As a result, rather than putting in expensive purpose built steel studio doors, I'm having them joiner built at a fraction of the cost. I'm sure at some point they'll be replaced by the ones I intended to buy in the first place but it may not be for a while. In any case, I'm uber pleased with how they are turning out. I figure the circle theme is one that should continue throughout the studio so it works well for me. Here they are: Let me know what you think!

Rimskidog
Thanks guys! As an aside, here's a question for everyone... I think the door looks a little unbalanced with only two circular windows and am thinking of putting a third one further down. Anyone agree or am I at risk of over-thinking this?
KingBollock
The door looks good as it is. To even it out you'd have to add a further 2 holes. At least as it is both windows are functional.

Rimskidog
So we've opened up the cable trays and the painful work has begun: Some cool stuff also started to happen... 51m0n
Thats going to be a whole mother load of wire pulling right there! Someone is going to have sore knees, and a sore back by the end of that little argument (all the wire pulling I have ever done has always ended up as an argument with too much copper trying to fit into too little space at some point)
Rimskidog
Someone much cleverer with photoshop than me sent me a suggestion for the control room doors. Wha'd'ya think? (looks pretty damn funky to me... though I suspect my carpenter might finally kill me if I was to suggest it)
51m0n
Why not copy the monitor drivers and ports for the door hole layout?
Dad3353
Less is more. (...and shouldn't you be laying cables, instead if drilling holes in doors..? Is this running late, or what.. ? ) Edited August 11, 2012 by Dad3353
Rimskidog
Am still thinking three holes is the way forward but that kinda design is really very eye catching... It is running late but stuff has been going on. More detail on that when I can...!
Rimskidog
Thanks for all your suggestions guys. Am gonna ponder this one awhile! In the meantime, we've been doing some flooring. Here's the booth: There have been a fair few of the maple flooring boards that are pretty heavily figured either with knots or where they have been sawn close to the bark. Rather than waste them I decided just to put them in the machine room:
