discreet Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012
DADDY!!!!
Woah! Eh? Whassat?!! Loving the woodwork. It's very rugged and manly. Quote
Rimskidog Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 erm... ahem! After a slightly stressful morning as the builders realised that the homatherm in the rear trapping had been fitted back to front (yes it is directional!) the whole back wall had to be taken down and put back together again. I also went to pick up the 200sq metres of engineered wood flooring I had ordered only to be told they sold it to someone else who walked in off the street on Saturday I begin to wonder whether there is actually a god and whether he is doing some of this stuff just to fcuk with me... On another note, the mains didn't turn up today as previously expected so if anyone is interested... you'll have to wait! Quote
51m0n Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Sh***y death thats harsh You really are having some aweful luck with this aren't you! Quote
Rimskidog Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 Thanks guys. Today was a better one. Live room glass arrived: At 25.5mm thick and a shade under 300kg I suspect tomorrow is going to be a tough day for a different reason! Rimskidog Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 It was so 'proper' we found that it was just too heavy to carry in safely so we've got some kind of lifting machine coming to help out. In the meantime, the inner ceiling profile started to appear: the soundlock door got framed: OSB'd and boarded: Quote
Rimskidog Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 The carpenters got significantly waylaid from the control room work today because the new steel security doors arrived and had to be fitted: However, the door into the machine room is now done and the place finally feels like a control room! Rimskidog Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 So, we figured it was time to start looking for some cool things to adorn the studio. We particularly wanted to make sure we managed to get at least a couple of items with real character. Things that would be cool even for non-studio-geeks. The first of these arrives tomorrow. Anyone got any idea what we might have gone for? Quote
joegarcia Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Juke box? Pinball machine? Vintage arcade machine? Quote
Rimskidog Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 No cigar (but I'm liking the pinball and space invader machine idea!) Quote
51m0n Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Morris Minor? Winston Churchill?? 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps??? Tell me I'm warm.... Quote

Rimskidog Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 Am lovin all these guys (though they're all wrong)! Keep em coming! It's giving me ideas for other stuff I could get that would be cool! Quote
charic Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 A lifesize tardis (to be turned into a vocal booth)/orchestral room Quote
Rimskidog Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 Hehe! Excellent ideas, all of them! Am sure what I've actually bought at this point won't be nearly as exciting to you guys as it was to me but, fwiw, here are the first of them. I heard the Theatre Royal in London was selling off a bunch of its oldest parcans. Now these aren't any old throwaway things but, rather, are from the era when things were made properly. Made by the "Strand" Company in, I believe, the early 1950s these, for me, are things of great beauty. I bought a pair and had them re-polished. They'll be going in the back corners of the control room and positioned to light up the console. Let me know what you think: Quote
flyfisher Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Cool . . . and with some genuine provenance as well. Double cool. Quote
