Pickup replacement questions

So I've dropped some cash on a Squier 5 string, but have some questions about replacing the pickups. This bass uses [b]two J pickups[/b] rather than a P-J configuration.

What makes should I consider? I'm familiar with all the brands - Bartolini, EMG etc, but am wondering which would work best wired into the stock passive electronics. I'm not looking for colourless reproduction, I'm after the most tone and character I can get from the bass. I'm all about the midrange.
