spongebob
Bit stuck here! My Ricky 4003......pups have been replaced. Nordstrand in the neck, Bartolini at the bridge. Sounds great, no complaints there. However, I noticed some weeks ago at a gig, that intermittently, I'd get a weird distorted tone....few seconds, then it clears. I can play different strings in that few seconds when it's doing it, and it will affect all of them. Then it goes. I'd describe it like a battery failing in an active bass. I've used different cabs, cables, but even using my practice amp now, I swear it's just done it again! Any thoughts? Could it be that the pickups don't match or something like that? Never had the problem before, and from memory, it's coincided with the changes...... All advice very welcome! Doctor J
Is it when one pickup is on, or both? Is it confined to just one pickup or both when run individually? Does your bass have the vintage push/pull circuit? Check the soldering and shielding and make sure that nothing has the opportunity to move, short circuit, etc.

I always play with both pups on full, vintage circuit never engaged. Practiced at home today, it seemed OK.....
