QR Codes on a pick

Recommended Posts

I know there are a million and one companies that can do personalised guitar picks.

However, has anyone had any experience with printing QR codes on them?

For the record, these are not for playing with. They are actually a fun little idea I’ve had for my freelance business.

I have a really good network and at events people are always asking me about guitars (or paddle boarding, or my dog etc).

All a long way from actual work.

So I thought when I’m networking or speaking at events, a personalised guitar pick to hand out would be a fun idea.

Name on one side, QR code to website or LinkedIn on the other.

Anyone printed a QR code on something that small? Did it work?

Recommendations of suppliers welcome.

I use Tortex 1mm. So I was thinking something chunky.

Loads of places online. I’ve not done promo prints for a few years but costs get lower with scale. Double sided printing is more complex so I’d do one side if possible.

Not sure of the sizes for QR codes so that’s a consideration. Would a functional QR code fit on a pick?

A QR should be at least 20mm square to be reliably scannable. Technically you can reduce it down to 10mm square, but to make it reliable you need to consider a lot of factors such as the length of the URL it points to (less characters is better), also IMO experience the printing quality on guitar picks isn't great so the bigger the code the more likely it is to work.

A more important question would be if it's worth it. I certainly would be very cautious about scanning a QR code from an unknown source.

That's excellent advice. Didn't know the size limitations.
