For years I just had one Pbass , and thought it was everything I needed. I was an idiot and passed on some unbelievably good deals on what is called vintage gear today. So now , if I see something I really like , I just might buy it. I love having different instruments. 72 Pbasses , bought the fretted one in the mid 70’s. It’s been my primary bass since … some had suggested getting a 6128 too. Another out of production and not easy to find. msb Posted July 21 Author Share Posted July 21 Thanks dmccombe , I sold the fretless 72 Pbass , still have the rest. There’s a Dano 59 Dolphin Nose that isn’t pictured , that I plan to sell. And my old upright that I plan to keep. There’s a number I sold that are not pictured. I tend to just pick one or two up a year. I’ve been at it for a while and still manage a couple of gigs every week. So I like to think they pay for themselves. Usually play the mid sized rooms downtown , no big star , I don’t like to travel. I load the car , drive the stuff downtown , set it up , and later drive it home. It’s routine. I seem to know quite a few that have acquired a bunch of classic stuff over the years , but are far from being real collectors and yet fairly nerdy about gear. LeftyJ Posted July 22 Share Posted July 22 Three of these are no longer in my possession, but I still included them because I love these pictures so much - especially the glamour shot of the ATK's Ibanez MC924: the left one is a 1983 model which I still own. The right one is a 1981 that I have since traded for an Atelier Z Baby Z-4J. I liked it a lot, but it was prohibitively heavy and had quite a chunky and wide neck so it got little playtime. The 1983 is from my year of birth (but just a month younger than me) and has sentimental value, but doesn't get played much either. I could never bring myself to sell that one though! 1996 Ibanez ATK300 and 1998 ATK305, both made in Japan. I don't own either of these anymore, I sold the 4-string many years ago and sold the 5-string two years ago. Lovely basses, solid workhorses, and very big and heavy. I kinda miss the 4-string, it was stellar. The 5-string sounded slightly harsher and not quite as warm and full-bodied, maybe due to the more rigid neck (because there was simply more wood). 2002 Warwick Streamer LX5 (nirvana black gloss) and 2001 Warwick Streamer LX (burgundy red gloss). The 5-string was my main bass for several years, until my headless Status S2 Classic 5-string replaced it. My duo of Status S2 Classic bolt-ons. The 5-string is my main axe ever since its arrival. It looks all black in this picture, but it's actually more of an anthracite metallic finish. The 4-string is VERY white up close, which contrasts beautifully with the VERY black phenolic fingerboard and the (now aged white) epoxy Roman numerals. 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If I’ve understood the serial numbers correctly they were made within the same month of each other at the same factory in Taiwan, but found themselves 20 years later together in my ownership. They are identical, apart from one having strap locks and a lot more wear and tear, while the newer one to me has had the machine heads swapped to Gotoh’s by a previous owner.
