I'm an 'owd scrote first picked up a bass around 1974 IIRC, a Shaftesbury Telebass short scale, played in various bands particularly punk bands until about 1979 then joined a rock/funk fusion band around 1980 and around '83 bought a Vox White Shadow. The gear I had at that time was a HH Bass Machine with a 2x15 Peavey Black Widow. during that period I sold the Vox and bought a Westone Spectrum until the band broke up and kids arrived. I totally gave up on playing bass from about 87 until 2019 when I bought a 7ender MIJ P bass. Have added to the collection now with mostly Harley Bentons that I've modded to different levels - the maddest being an RB-414 which I've spent 4 times the amount the bass cost me new!😆😆, great learning curve though.

I now own 8 guitars, Left to Right in first picture, Retrovibe medium scale, HB P-50, and the orange one I'll post on here about that another time. Left to right in 2nd picture, HB JB-75, Yamaha BBN4 III fretless, HB RB-414, 7ender P and a Harley Benton HBZ-2005. Orange Crush Bass 50 and a few Dreadbox pedals, plus a cheapy DI if ever I need one.

Musical tastes vary,

likes;

UK pre 1980's punk but also New Wave

Reggae and dub, particularly Sly and Robbie, Black Uhuru, Mikey Dread era

Old School Hiphop

Smattering of classics

Nina Simone

Intelligent Indie and LGTBG+ (Antony, Erasure, Soft Cell etc.)

Dislikes;

Mainstream pop and R&B

C&W

Cheers.

Forgot to say I was on Talkbass for 5 years but TBH got fed up of the small minded moderators and rich Fodera owning folk and Rick Fanbois and wannabees who look down their noses at people who like budget guitars. Hope it's a bit different here.

Welcome aboard!

Lots of affection for HB's and inexpensive basses on this site - and for Foderas and Rics too.

Go on - what's the orange single-cut 5 string?

Well, it started life as one of these

but I'll do a post on here in the not too distant about all the mods that's been done. 👍

Welcome Teesee. Cheap guitars? I own one and I just got done making it outta an old box. Half baritone, half short scale, all madness. Yours look gorgeous, though to be honest I wouldn't know much of the differences between one and another. Just learning bass. Or, I'll start learning bass on Saturday when my strings get delivered.

Your guitar sounds very interesting mate, hope you get down with it. Have you posted it on here yet? if so drop us the link. And welcome to becoming a bassist, I'm sure you'll have years of fun. 👍

Thank you for wishing me well on bass. I've seen folk playing a bass thingy on that there TV thingy, so I reckon I should be good 👍 😄 🤣
