colleya Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 My new band is at the pre-gig 'what shall we call ourselves?' stage, so I'm after some Basschat collective wisdom for ideas. The general style is really laid back, funky versions of soul/90s R&B/pop tracks. Waaay outside my previous experience. Some of the set list tracks are: Here's a clip from last night's rehearsal to give you an idea of style. For those of you like me, who will be wanting to know - Sandberg Cali VM5 -> HX Stomp -> Ashdown RM 500 -> GR Bass 2 x 10. All ideas welcome, they've got to be better than mine! Cheers, Andy 1 Quote
AndyTravis Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Soul/Funk (seems to be the set list staple?) - We did 2 similar bands “Covert” ”Reissue” on the same train of thought Re:Soul Souled Out Souler Powered Something like that? 1 Quote
AndyTravis Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Teenage Dirtbag threw me though - is it a soul/funk rework? Quote
colleya Posted July 26, 2024 Author Posted July 26, 2024 @AndyTravis yeah. Not sure if it works with everything else yet. We're still at the pre gig-filter 'try everything and see what sticks' stage. 1 Quote
Kyndainverse Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Can't think of anything better than 'Pre-millennium Groove', but I would definitely go and watch you if you played around Cardiff. 1 Quote

Bolo Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Anton, Bill, Murph & Victor Since you're playing covers you'll never do headline tours or sell records so the name just needs to set you aside from all other coverbands. You can replace the names with your own but if anything it'll be less rememberable (as a gimmick). Keep them in alphabetical order though, it pleases the OCD crowd. 2 Quote

ezbass Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 GrooveHeart, GrooveHeartBeat, something along those lines. However, I will also proffer my usual suggestion, from Tony Levin’s list of unused band names - Post Burrito Depression. 1 Quote
