Tokai pickup upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have a medium scale Tokai EB3 shape which plays beautifully, but the pickups seem to have lost some bite and power. Can anyone recommend some upgraded Humbuckers to consider? There are so many I don’t know where to start. Not sure whether I should consider upgrading the pots too.  Thanks all

  • francisabear changed the title to Tokai pickup upgrade

Have you tried adjusting the pickups higher? Have you adjusted the bridge and raised strings?

If the system is working well, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. If you have hit or demagnetized pickup magnets, the level may have changed. Otherwise some height adjustment is in need.

I am not familar with the specific pickups, but from what you say it sounds like they might have become de-magnetized some, however it should be relatively cheap and easy to either re-magnetize (Alnico pole piece magnets) them or simply replace the magnets (Ceramic bar magnets under the pickups).
