Wun Chan Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Anybody on here had the pleasure of trying one of these Toob cabs from Finland https://www.toob.fi ? I have a few guitar friends who use them and love them. The sound quality is great for them, they play clean as they do the jazz thing and more over the cab is very light. They use their own head so they have a choice in the colour tone there. I’m thinking of getting one mainly for upright, lugging an amp albeit a small one and double bass across London is a mission. The thought of something lighter with a decent sound is appealing. Currently using a Phil Jones Cub BG-100, which is great for the smaller of gigs but every now and again I need a bit more. Quote
Bill Fitzmaurice Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I can see them being good with guitar, as guitar cabs need not be very large. But bass cabs do need to be large to go low. As reinforcement for double bass they may be OK. 2 Quote
Dan Dare Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I agree with Bill (as I usually do). If you want something that gives you more than your Bass Cub, I'd look at augmenting it with an additional power amp and cab or powered cab. I use and like PJB cabs and take out between one and five of their 4x5s, depending on how loud I need to be. Obviously, you need a vehicle to move more than a couple of them around. I used to live in London and found a decent folding trolley very helpful when I had to use public transport. It took two C4s without difficulty. Quote
itu Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 (edited) I have tried one. It is feasible for double bass, or an AEB, like a monitor. Not so big sound, but portable. Because it is relatively small, the low end is weak. Funny looking, I still think it is aimed for g-word players. A small portable unit, I use an old GK 200MB combo. Far better. I was going to mention the 200MB and its successors, the MB150S (IIRC there was an MB150E too). I used one for bass guitar but I've seen them recommended for DB several times. 1 Quote
