jazzyvee Posted Saturday at 23:05 Posted Saturday at 23:05 I managed to leave empty handed, not even tempted so pretty much confirmed i've now got all i need bass and rig wise. Had a good chats with Mark from @Bass Directdirect, Andrew from @Anaconda Basses, and @skelf and got talking to a guy who bought an ACG bass. Downstairs at Guitar Show was pretty noisy at times. Nice time tho. 1 Quote
NJE Posted Sunday at 01:48 Posted Sunday at 01:48 Visited today with my boy, the deciding factor was ACS being there, so I had my custom earplugs done as well. Some really good stuff there and a fun afternoon wandering around. My son came back with so many stickers and plectrums, but other than the freebies the highlights were: 1. Vintage Bass Room - some really lovely gear and it was nice having a wee chat. I was very taken with the Wilcock Long Scale, that nearly got me, it was just a lovely sounding and playing bass and top quality build. I was thinking about it for a few hours. 2. I played the prototype far east made Dingwall SP-1 PJ 5 string. Not much of a 5 string player these days but what a bass. Played beautifully, build was superb and sounded great with a nice 4 way pickup selector. Might be in trouble if the production model 4 strings are that good. 3. Absolute Music had a 77 Stingray that just floored me. I very nearly called the wife to warn her it was coming home but did resist even after a second visit. I think that bass might haunt my dreams and I’m still thinking about it. 4. Realising that I know what I like and what I need. I wasn’t tempted by much gear, most of what I tried was superb quality and sounded great (Spector Euro comes to mind) but it wasn’t for me and the GAS remained low. On the whole it was a great show for not much money and I will be going back next year. Only downside for me was the noise, but the quiet time came around quickly. I actually found the bass room worst of all, a mix of heavy overdrive pick playing and frantic slap at the same time can drive you potty! It made it hard to try a few things but almost everyone had headphone rigs which was great. 3 1 Quote

Rich Posted Sunday at 10:18 Posted Sunday at 10:18 @Steve Lawson's set was amazing. I saw him many many moons ago and he's come on stratospherically since then both in terms of gear (oh god, that Elrick ❤️ ) and 'composition'. His sonic landscapes are quite astonishing, complex and tasteful. 3 Quote

I bought a Boss Katana Go from the Boss stand which was a good price and the guys there were really helpful (was actually PMT). One thing I did learn after playing a few was that I really don’t like vintage basses, like old P’s or something. Saves me a hell of a lot of money knowing that! Origin Effects guy who was showing me and my friend the bass pedals was fantastic. 2 Quote

AlexDelores Posted Sunday at 16:55 Posted Sunday at 16:55 Really good day. Nice to catch a few of you there today. Thanks to @walshy for letting play a couple of very, very nice P basses. Bass of the day was @Manton Customs short scale beaut. Very impressive! Time to save some pennies I think! Also pretty blown away by the AC guitars basses as well as meeting them both. Another highlight was catching Phil Mann trying out a couple of Anaconda basses and having a little chat. Superb player a lovely sounding basses! 4 2 Quote

Machines Posted Sunday at 19:11 Posted Sunday at 19:11 Just got back ! Superb weekend, I was on the Darkglass stand 90% of the time and it was fun catching up with lots of people. I ambushed @Rich mid pastry and we had a chat. I finally got my D-Roc signed by Sheldon which was awesome too. Ended up going out for a meal with the BassDirect crew, along with Sheldon Dingwall and Dave Swift - all super people. Time for a beer and a shower, followed by an early night ! (ps it's SO quiet at home). 3 Quote

Until I read your post, I didn’t realise that he owned the company 😂 Was hoping to catch Dave but didn’t get chance. 1 Quote

AndyTravis Posted Sunday at 21:39 Posted Sunday at 21:39 What a weekend! So much better than last year. I won’t mention Fridays M6 closure for 2.5 hours. Was ace to meet so many of you. highlight for me was finally meeting @cetera after so many years; talking like old friends straight away. met loads of great people - sold lots of dangerously good basses. Played less than last year…but, that’s probably best for everyone’s ears. Lovely time with @walshy Happy to say home journey was uneventful and under 2 hours…got bless the Passat’s Motorway manners. and… a STOWAWAY! Curses… 9 2 Quote

Goliath_FX Posted yesterday at 07:59 Author Posted yesterday at 07:59 Good morning! Well, what a weekend! Absolutely brilliant show! Like others have said its such an improvement from last year. I'd like to think I had some input on the event, from the day after last years event I email Jason the organiser begging him for our own space again and he wasn't sure it would work or if people would be interested. I started various posts on some Facebook groups and the feedback I got was a midlands based Bass Show would be welcomed with open arms from the bass community, and I think its safe to say it was! I email Sheldon, SBL and more asking them if they would be interested and when they said yes I passed this onto Jason and sure enough he cracked and put the show on. Yesterday as I was leaving I saw him in the hall and he told me it will 100% be on again next year, so thats great news! Personally I had a great weekend and met some awesome people! I wish I had the forum logged in on my phone so I could have updated earlier but alas I forgot. I want to say thank you to everyone who managed to stop by and say hello. The feedback on the pedals was awesome. Sold a few bits and can safely move into the next development stage. Thanks again, Matt. 10 1 Quote
