Finding a band to join

Awww, no!  In my day (1997-2000) it still called itself "Wycombe's Marquee" and had bands on every weekend.  It still had the, ahem, exotic dancers on at luchtime.

I don't suppose you remember Paradiddles Music Store on Castle Street?

Famously the Kings of Leon's first gig was at the White Horse, used to be a good venue. Yeah, I remember Paradiddles, think it's a tattooist now.

I used to work at Paradiddles when I was at uni.  Crazy times.  Saw the Damned play at the White Horse, too.

Not sure if this is the right place, or if there's a sticky for this, but I couldn't find one.

Just wondering if anyone can offer advice on good places to find bands to join?

My advice,  always define what you're looking for in a band before you start looking.

Years ago I learned the hard way. Joining bands that were doomed from the start. I didn't do my homework on the bands .

Buy a PA system and a van. As soon as word gets out you'll be swamped in offers.

PA system is only really useful if you are based out in the sticks and only want to do gigs there or you want to join a covers band.

However a van is useful for any band so long as you are happy to always be the driver.

Joining an established band can be a good way of gauging what they are like in terms of music and commitment. However there is also the chance that you will always be the FNG and never a proper member of the band.
