Schnozzalee Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 (edited) Yamaha uses top quality rosewood for entry Pacificas, but Fender/Squier and Gibson/Epiphone are putting out some absolute turd for fingerboards now; it's going to be even more obvious on a fretless. matbard Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Some Laurel fingerboards I had were extremely gray-ish, very unattractive. For feeling, they were OK. I have to see the fretless in person, but I think that some oil or carnauba wax treatment will make them virtually identical to rosewood. Quote

That seems to really darken anaemic looking Pau Ferro etc Quote
uk_lefty Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 My Harley Benton fretless has a laurel board and it sounds better than my rosewood board fretless. 1 Quote

Just need Fender to wake up and follow suit and I'll be in heaven. I may have to get one of these now just because its unlined but I wish they had more colour options. Plus, I did play a fretted one once and found it mega uncomfortable but who knows, I may just give it a go. In the interests of fairness, the Fender Tony Franklin P bass has an unlined ebony board 😎 Quote
AndyTravis Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 Well…this just got more interesting…genuinely think this bass would sound phenomenal as a fretless. not this one but the Jack Casady generally. 2 Quote

Maude Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 Ah, I didn't know you had the blue one back, thought it was an old pic. Fantastic basses 😎 1 Quote

Linus27 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I wish they made this in other colours, I'm really not a fan of the tan colour. Quote

Maude Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Get the tan one fretted, it's not a huge job and certainly very do-able. I know, I not helping am I? 😁 Quote

Yeah fair enough, I didn't consider that. Although I do like the look of no markers at all, but I am a bit weird like that 😁 Quote
dmz Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 That last photo of the fretless is not doing my gas any good 😖 Babicz bridge anyone ? I do like the irony of your moniker Linus27 - maybe should be Linlus27 ? 🤔 I’ll get my coat……. 1 Quote
