Effects Sequence and FX Loop

I know the preferred (not cast in stone) sequence is for distortion before modulation. How does this work if you want to use your amp's gain for distortion? Does the FX loop put the modulation in the right place?

Thanks,

Mike

The FX Loop is usually post EQ and Amp colouring/distortion (as if you want to put effects pre those amp things it can go Guitar>Effects pedals>Amp). So yeah, if you want Amp distortion> modulation effects then use the FX loop.

Most amps have the loop after the preamp section so that's all good.

Beyond that - depends on what you like. I prefer phaser in front of the amp, but flanger in the loop, just like I do on guitar.

Chorus should always be kept in a bin unless playing in a covers band that only does songs from about 1983-1988.

I thought the sound I was looking for was more phaser, but listening around on Youtube, the nearest I could find was chorus, used in a very specific way, to give a slow swirl. Otherwise, I'd agree!
