For sale / trade is my Fender PB70-70US. Made in Japan in 1989/90. Very dark rosewood fretboard. Ash body - made of one piece as far as I can see. US pickups. Frets in excellent condition. A few minor dings, scratches and touch-ups here and there. Has CTS pots so these are not original. Pickguard is also likely a replacement as catalog shows PB70s with black pickguards only. Really nice looking and playing ‘70s RI Precision bass. 40mm nut width and 4.2kg.

Possibly trade for Mustang bass.

These are wondeful instruments. I had an ash bodied one, too.

I think the scratchplate may also be a change, as these came with a black scratchplate originally. Doesn't detract from a terrific bass though. GLWTS.

You could be right. I just looked at the 1990 Twang catalog and the PB70s  are only shown with a black pickguard. It’s a precise fit though - all holes and neck pocket perfectly aligned.

Beautiful bass. I’ve been looking for the same model but with maple neck for a long time. So long I purchased a Yamaha pulser 400.

if this was a maple neck I would have sold my pulser and grabbed it.

A very classy-looking instrument with all the features that I like: lovely, dark fretboard, big tuners (are these reverse-wind?) and a nice clean 'rear view' i.e. no skunk stripe and no string-through body.

The pickguard was possibly changed to accommodate the CTS pots as these have larger shafts than the Japanese-spec pots; I think it looks better than an all-black one.

Good luck with the sale.

The tuners are not reverse wind, Kev, they're the standard later type. Period correct.
