XFR Jr is starting in September and I'm wondering whether she'll need an amp or do they just need a bedroom practice amp and instrument? They had trace combos in the studios if I remember correctly and all the gear was pretty good for the time... lots of electric drum kits I remember! I feel a head would be a good shout, maybe something class D, headphones socket and an aux so they can practive quietly at halls or house share without the need of an amp and then take it to gigs where hopefully somebody will lend their cab. For reference i took a hartke 4x10 and amp which I think maybe got used a handful of times. I have no idea what gigging in Bath is like these days, all the venues have gone I played in there, God I feel old.. I would recommend a small head that fits in the gigbag, with a headphone output too. It's light, will fit into a gigbag easily. If she's not headlining gigs, she'll most likely be borrowing a cab at gigs anyway. I heard one a couple of months ago that was monstrous through an 810 and a couple of pedals. If not, there's a Laney Digbeth 500 in Swindon for £300. I didn't do music (didn't really do anything, I say with no pride) but I lived with a couple of music students. It's really upped it's game in recent years and I know Julianne from All About Eve was lecturing music there for years. Based on everyones advice, I think I'll look for a compact head. I've got a nice Eden 2x10 cab she can use for gigs during uni holidays. I've put her Ashdown MAG 210 combo up for sale.
