Yeah it’s not exactly the biggest deal in the world to do this is it. Anything that improves the forum I’m all up for.

You can fake it without too much trouble, but the thing is that it is just another hurdle to scamming, that most people won't bother with, generally people with some skills are less likely to be the people scamming. 

I used to put my name in all eBay adverts, but for whatever reason, they banned having usernames in adverts, presumably as they wanted to use them for their own purposes.

 

The only downside I see is that a fake postit (like the one on here recently) adds legitimacy to a fake post, and many people are very bad at spotting fakes, even when they are quite obvious, like most AI pictures.

I like this idea Dood... I was thinking if we had a printable template maybe A5 size with instructions to for example tuck it under the strings, it would make it hard to 'fake' (insert into a picture of someone else's bass) and tricky to remove (if stealing pics from here).

 

Something like this maybe?

It's not exactly hard to find a picture of a bass you don't own and chop in a postcard under strings and over headstock.

I think it is for most people. It's an idea to make it less easy to take sellers pics from other sites and list that item as your own elsewhere. Just trying to help, if you have any useful ideas to share please do.

Either way, I think a venn diagram of photoshop experts and online bass scammers will have very little overlap, and anything we can do to make it less convenient, the better.

I don't know how to photoshop and I'll wager many on this site can't do it either with the degree of skill required to fool most observers. If this deters just 1 scammer in 10 it's still a step forward to greater security on the site. As @ped says, if anyone has better suggestions maybe put them forward rather than just carp?

As you say, you can fool the casual observers a lot of the time, especially if you don't put much effort in as this, but it is another deterrent and perfect is the enemy of good, so better th

It would also stop scammers from using the delicious, borderline pornographic pics of desirable basses often found here as the basis for scams elsewhere. Much more difficult to edit a post-it out of a pic, especially if it's on the neck or headstock where there's woodgrain beneath.

The same as the outrage that happened of my old air rifle forum when this rule was introduced; however, within not very long people had settled down and it became the norm.  Also the amount of people who went crying to the mods when they were scammed dropped.
