We’re lucky we can play scales and arpeggios from pattern and just move them around but it so helps if the start points, the notes, are all just instantly visualised. That's why I said right at the start “People have different ways of learning”. It’s not a “One size fits all” scenario. I find that if you instantly know where to find a named note on the fretboard, the others are easier to locate. Learning the circle of 5ths also helps.
