I'd be inclined to go for the Kala, but that's my personal view. 1
Aidan63
Be aware the Kala has a very chunky neck, I much prefer the Tanglewood which is based on their short scale 3/4 acoustic guitar, also the 14th fret neck join is better for access than the Kala's 12th fret neck joint in my experience, though it could be argued about tone from different bridge placement - neck join less of an issue on a solid body which is different (around 16thfret), but the neck is chunky
zonular
Thats really good to know cause I'm nearly driving to Limerick from Dublin to collect one sight unseen @SamIAm I went to the ukulele hooley, not a u bass in sight. Best bass tone of the day was some sort of violin / hofner bass

zonular
The Dublin uke collective had a p bass in the mix, which was great but the hofner was so much more bassy with a capital B.
jd56hawk
I've heard plenty of people say the acoustic Kala U is surprisingly loud, it's not, but the plugged-in tone is pretty good. The solid-body models are nice little basses for kids who want to learn bass but still find something like the Ibanez Mikro too big. I'm not saying it goes against the original reasoning behind the U bass, but... I would d buy this one, though Edited August 26 by jd56hawk
