The only bloke I've heard of with one is Geddy Lee. He's using it on tour at the moment, after playing the fretless version on the new Rush album, so it's a good bet he likes it... :)

Can't understand why anyone would pay a premium for an instrument that looks like someone has knocked the sh*t out of it. pristine and shiny for me I'm afraid.

Because he wanted a different sound to his main bass? The way he tells it, they were in the middle of recording when he got the idea, no time to hit the workshop. Besides, why should he mutilate a bass when he can just call his Fender artist rep and say "can I try one of those, please, eh?" :)
