Fender Pbass MIJ Hybrid II/Okamoto/Traditional

On the hunt for a Pbass and considering these as they have the finish I like. + on the Okamoto coz of the lolli tuners. I just have no idea what to expect about the basswood body in terms of weight and durability.

I believe @wateroftyne had one and can provide an expert view. I remember the Okamoto came with excellent reviews!

Yep, I've got a 'burst Okamoto. Very nice bass. The basswood body is a non-issue. It might as well be alder.

Basswood is absolutely fine as a body. The only reason it isn't more popular is that it isn't great to look at, so is primarily used under solid finishes. Weight compares closely to alder.

Basswood tends to be lighter, but it's softer than Alder, so it's easier to ding.

I also have an Okamoto, bought two weeks ago, now done 4 gigs with it.

Best Precision I've ever had and the reason my Elite Jazz will be going up for sale.

Light, fast and sounds wonderful however mine came with post factory DIMarzio DP122 fitted.

 

Aren't MM Bongos Basswood?

Nice cover of Foo Fighters. Are the stock pickups good or you just wanted to change it?

Previous owner put the DP122 on. The bass came up on Bass Bros & I was after one, but the pickup change was icing on the cake. I've always liked them.

Love a cream DiMarzio on a P bass. A real Martyn P Casey (of the Bad Seeds) vibe. Very nice score Karl
