SteveXFR Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 This last year I've been getting more and more in to post metal so I thought I'd start a thread where nerdy metal heads can share some good stuff. My current favourite is Bossk, they were incredible at Arctangent a couple weeks back. I was absolutely blown away by their Sunday set. 1 Quote
Graham Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Bossk are brilliant, seen them a few times, last year at Damnation was great - they played Audio Noir in full on the Friday then filled in for another band who dropped out at the last minute on the Saturday and got Johannes from Cult Of Luna to join them for Menhir, which was epic Their new album is in my top five of the year so far I'm into a fair bit of post-metal and post-rock, the new Hippotraktor and Oh Hiroshima albums are very good too 2 Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Just out of interest, is "post Metal" just like metal, but with a really long and sort-of ambient intro? Quote
SteveXFR Posted September 1, 2024 Author Posted September 1, 2024 The effects pedal boards are much larger as well. 2 Quote

Graham Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 This probably my favourite album Cult Of Luna & Julie Christmas - Mariner https://youtu.be/25qg0SKa-N0?si=tX2lUhoS9IvVYftu 2 Quote
prowla Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 I was wondering what post metal is too; I might check it out. Quote

I'm from the ISIS "Oceanic" era, so all my post-metal listening is over a decade old now [eep!] But I've listened to a few tracks from Hippotraktor, and I really like what I'm hearing. Oceanic is in my top 5 albums of all time, I adore it - also part of the reason I play a Stingray 1 Quote

Hmm - I thought "That's a great into to the song", but 4 minutes in it appears to be the whole thing. And then a load of shouty stuff. Edited September 2, 2024 by prowla Quote

Yes, agreed she's got a similar vibe, having Johannes on there again helps - it's my top abum of the year so far and there's not much coming out that could dethrone it Quote

SteveXFR Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 Not quite post metal but close enough. I love a bit of Elephant Tree. I'm loving the new album. Incredible bass tones. https://tidal.com/album/364497479?u Quote
d-basser Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 (edited) Would thoroughly recommended Russian Circles to anyone who hasn't come across them before. Saw them twice last week and Brian's bass tones are always brutal Edited November 8, 2024 by d-basser 1 Quote
SteveXFR Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 @d-basser I saw them at Arctangent last year. Amazing band. Gnosis is one of my favourite albums at the moment. Quote
d-basser Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 Such a good album. Still haven't got to Arctangent, really should since it seems to be Post Metal Mecca. I'll also chuck a cheeky wee link to my band. Heavy Cult of Luna, Isis, Russian Circles influences. https://voidoflight.bandcamp.com/ 1 Quote
