Higgins.plays.bass
So, I have a Charvel San Dimas PJ, & I love how it feels & plays… but I’m not super happy with the sound. I’ve been keeping it around to use on rock gigs, but last weekend I was out on a couple of indie rock/pop gigs… & I wasn’t overly stoked with it in context. (Overly attacky, not a whole lot of body to the sound & left me thinking “My Lakland would have done this way better”) Leaving me with a couple of options… either sell it & buy something else, or swap out the pickups. I’m thinking the Nordstrand NP5F would be a potential shout, but see basically nothing about them. Anyone using one? What do you think?
Doctor J
That's a fairly extreme EQ shape on the Ashdown, full on disco smile by the looks of it? Are you bypassing that or EQing on the bass and on the head?

So, that EQ’s definitely in no semblance of anything I’d use on a gig 😂
acroxixo
I will follow this topic. I did try the 4 string version a week ago, and really like the neck. It make me think bought one and transform at my liking. Change pickups, pré, bridge, tunners and knobs. I even made a picture how would it look 😂 I want to use it on a rock/metal band
Grahambythesea
I can’t believe that with all those pedals , you can’t tweak the sound to something good.
attackbass
I don't feel a pickup change will radically change things, might help provide some more mids and bass. Can you bypass the active onboard preamp? Maybe I would say try different strings first. Half round/flat wounds? I have no idea how you play but maybe playing softer might help as that's the cheapest option!
