W1_Pro
Hi everyone, this has probably been covered before, but I can't find a thread so here goes. I want to replace the vol & tone pots on my P bass. I'm planning to use CTS 250K log pots with a .047 orange drop cap. One thing I am confused about, are there specific volume and tone pots or is a pot just a pot? Advice appreciated... Many thanks Stuart Edited September 3 by W1_Pro
JohnH89
A pot is a pot . Normally log taper for volume and either log or linear for tone . And a cap is also just a cap . Electrically all pots are the same . Better quality such as CTS will be smoother and last longer . 1

Hellzero
Check this before saying that all pots are equal: https://www.potentiometers.com/potcomFAQ.cfm?FAQID=19 CTS aren't better than other carbon track potentiometers, they are as bad and cheaply made. It's an urban legend based on vintage collectors bad appreciation.
JohnH89
The point I made was that all pots are equal electrically . There is , as you point out , a big difference in quality .
deepbass5
I recently changed pots for the new CTS black nylon body type, these were also push / pull pots as I have a coil tap on the pickup, I was so pleased with it i changed the Tone pot to push pull and used it as a kill switch all good and very quiet. Rayman
As above. I ended up putting a 500K volume pot, 250K tone pot and .33 cap, for a kind of all round tone. CTS all the way for me.
