V2 Thumpinator, the nice slim one that fits easily under pedalboards.

This one has a custom 10M input so it can be used for piezo equipped instruments, as well as active basses or passive basses with a pedal/buffer in front of it (I have used this with a passive jazz directly in and it worked perfectly)

I was always sceptical of these, however an old combo of mine was very boomy and I'd read these help so I bought one. I was very pleasantly surprised as it makes quite a bit of difference (to most rigs) it dramatically cuts everything below 25Hz, which is inaudible to human hearing but your bass rig will use power to reproduce,

It really tightens the low end.

I always have one on my board. I too found it tightened up my sound with much reduced driver movement.

I don’t need two but I’d have it straightaway if I did. As you all know, Lee is a top man.

Thanks Peter

Some science bits

The micro-Thumpinator is a bandwidth optimizer designed for bass guitar. It removes the low frequency signals that are outside the range of notes produced by the instrument.

Infrasonic frequencies cannot be reproduced by standard bass cabinets but they often make amplifiers clip, especially when they are set to boost the lower frequencies. The Thumpinator filters the signal content optimising the energy delivered by the amplifier. Low-frequency clip is substantially reduced and the sound is tighter especially at high volume levels.

The micro-Thumpinator accepts instrument and line level signals. It can be used between preamplifier and amplifier, between bass and amplifier or anywhere in the effect chain (line or instrument level). It can also be connected directly to an audio interface.

I've always wondered about these - is it a HPF set at 25Hz or is it cleverer than that?

It’s not just down to the set frequency, it’s evidently also the carefully chosen slope of the cut off. Evidently.

It works and Thumpinators traditionally sell really quickly as they are made to order. You can’t buy them off the shelf.

A few years back I was using a Markbass 500 head into a pair of Aguilar 12” cabs. (Or it could have been a Zoot 2x12).  I fitted the Micro Thumpinator at a band rehearsal and everyone was amazed at the apparent volume increase without touching the bass or amp.
The speaker movement went from a lot to a little.

Thanks Greeneking

These are first class devices, and work wonderfully well, if my octave goes, ill keep it.

These usually sell in hours of being put up, but this hasnt. I wonder if its the 10M input?

It just means it works well with piezo pickups as well as magnetic.

I’d like to stress how good these relatively cheap and compact units are. It’s not an effect as such but much more that that. An always on sonic balancer.

I’d not be without one for conventional amp and cab use.
