Nice Guy Rich Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I need some new strings for my 3/4 EUB but my budget isn’t what it used to be, what cheap DB strings can anyone recommend? Thanks. Quote
Beedster Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Buy used on BC Rich, most DB strings that are cheap in real terms are also shit in real terms. Put a post in Items Wanted and someone will come up with some, hell I've got about 15 sets here just no idea where they are at present or I'd have offered myself 👍 1 Quote
Nice Guy Rich Posted September 6, 2024 Author Posted September 6, 2024 @Beedster I just found a great deal on Amazon, I got a set of D’Addario JC610 3/4M medium tension DB strings for £86, they’re normally around £145-150 😁👍🏻 #happydays Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Presto are usually quite good value too, I don't think they're lesser quality than Thomastik et al, but Gdansk is presumably a more cost effective place to run a manufacturing business than Vienna. Quote

It was quite an impressive clusterf*** to be honest. No great stress as I saw the problem before I'd even taken the other strings off and when I pressed return I received a refund pretty much immediately. Nonetheless I'd not buy strings from Amazon again, especially not DB strings, and advise you to check your's pretty thoroughly. Restringing a DB only to find the strings ain't 100% as advertised is a time consuming and frustrating process 👍 1 Quote
Nice Guy Rich Posted September 6, 2024 Author Posted September 6, 2024 Thank you for the heads up, I have read on BC about fake strings being sold through Amazon. I’ll give them a thorough going over when they land 👍🏻 1 Quote
Nice Guy Rich Posted September 7, 2024 Author Posted September 7, 2024 The strings have arrived and they’re genuine, all good 😁👍🏻 #WhatABargain 1 Quote
Beedster Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Nicely done, and yes a bargain. Hope you have a string winder 👍 1 Quote
hpc364 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 Artino strings are cheap, they've got no reputation because nobody plays them. Some say they are decent, those strings are on my bass. I asked somebody about them and he said the tension was between light and medium compared to other steel string sets. Give them a chance, I don't want to be the only one who plays them ! 1 Quote
Nice Guy Rich Posted September 8, 2024 Author Posted September 8, 2024 @hpc364 I saw these on the Thomann website, I’ll definitely bear them in mind 👍🏻 1 Quote
Nice Guy Rich Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 The silk windings on the new D’Addario strings certainly put the DUB into double bass 😂 2 1 1 Quote
