NBD Jet P Bass (JPB-300-SG R)

Really pleased with this one (my own pics and a more detailed review to follow...)

£340 from Stompbox on ebay using a very handy 10% off eBay voucher which popped up.

Great bass! The fit and finish is superb. It's lightweight (not too much to feel neck divey) very resonant thanks to the roasted body and neck, it feels "alive" and sounds really funky. No dead spots, every note is true and clear. The tuners are good quality and have a decent and smooth ratio to them. Simple functional bridge (it's a P Bass) that is good quality.

I don't know if the pickups are ceramic or alnico but I'm happy with them.

What I'm not so keen on:

The tort guard (will be spraying that parchment)

While the fretwork is flawless and mirror polished, I can feel the fret end "bumps" (there's no sharp fret ends whatsoever) it's just I prefer a more 45° angle to them, probably because I'm used to vintage basses with hardly any frets left!

I've got a chrome bridge cover to go on it for my muting foam to live and a set of TI flats at the ready.

More deets to follow next week as I'm working this weekend.

Just thought I'd give an early shout out as I've not seen the Jet P mentioned yet. I dived straight in when I saw it due to the favourable Jet J chats I read on here. Same goes for this baby...

I think the tort looks great.

I have a Jet jazz bass, liking it a lot. My first encounter with roasted maple, does feel good. It's pretty heavy though. What's your P weigh, in actual kg?

The tort is alright, it's not ugly as faux tort can be by any means. It's just I don't think it's a great match with sherwood green. Personal preference that's all. I'll get around to it eventually but I'm not in a rush.

I haven't weighed it yet but from experience I'd say it'll be 8 1/2 lbs max, probably a bit less.

Just weighed it. In new money it's 3.7kg (which is 8.157lbs).

I took a couple of very rubbish photos before I left for work (my elderly phone has a rather crap and colour-shy camera). It looks far nicer in real life!

I've just noticed that the roasted neck has both flame and birdseye in the maple. It has that nice 3D effect when you move it in the light. You'll have to take my word for that though!

3.7kg is fairly light for a P bass too Miles 😀

Yes I'm ever so slightly tempted...going to wait to see what Mr Tone makes of it after a few gigs/rehearsals/oasis reunions...

Just weighed my jet jjb, 4.2kg.

Still waiting for the call from Noel but I'll report back soon 😄

I've been without a P Bass for a year and a half since I had to sell my 1965 Precision (Excalibur!...). That was "The One". Unfortunately, being otherwise skint and our house needing serious repairs, I had to cash in my chips there.

The grieving process has now run it's course (sniff..) and I sorely missed having a P.

This jet is a great bass and the fact it was so inexpensive is the cherry.

A bit heavier then but kind of average for a J. They usually do come in heavier than Ps though don't they.

Other than it feeling a bit heavy, are you happy with it generally?

It's very "playable", love the feel of the roasted maple. Initially the sound didn't seem deep enough so following some tips here I got a pair of dimarzio ultra jazz, now it really sounds like the jazz bass I'd hoped for. Very versatile, works with a pick or bare fingers.

It's my first J. I was expecting a big difference in the neck but actually the CIJ precision feels skinnier at the nut. I think it's unusually shallow for a P. I haven't measured them. I should, in the interests of journalism.

Oooh, I hadn't picked up on a Jet P bass.  I now have bas GAS so thanks for that :(

I love my Jet JJB-300 (weighs in at bob on 4kgs) and is still un-modified after several months.

I've noticed both the Jet P and J basses have better higher fret access than the F@@@er items.  I might have just accidentally bought of of the Jet P basses too :swoon:

Ild be seeing how close the plate shape was to a fender one … and then ild be fitting an anodised aluminium one… but that’s just me!

They are a different shape due to the deeper treble bout cut-away. A custom pickguard starts at around 50 quid so it's either keep it as is or paint the existing one. The tort is growing on me a bit now.
