tauzero Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 I've never owned a Klos, and the only time I've played one was a 4-string at @dub_junkie's house when I went to try a Bogart. It impressed me so much that I put myself on the list to be notified when they brought out a 5-string, and now they have. https://klosguitars.com/products/carbon-fiber-5-string-bass Shame they didn't go with my suggestion of a headless... dub_junkie Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Yes I am definitely going for a 5 string. I would pick one of the flame tops but no word on pricing apart from 20% higher than the 4 string. If the flame top models are too pricey I'll happily settle for a solid colour. Also they are now offering 21 and 22 fret options on the replacement fender necks.(2.5" heel width) Hopefully one of those will be going on my Sledge Sabre for a pseudo Cutlass II vibe. Quote
crazycloud Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 A charcoal or blue 6 would be nice depending on the price and the neck dimension and bridge spacing. I also hope the Klos PUs are a common size like EMG45. Quote
LeftyJ Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 This is nice, and the headstock looks quite a bit better than the tiny paddle on the 4-string! 1 Quote
binky_bass Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Any thoughts as to the starting cost for a 6? Quote

Christ on a bike, yes. It doesn't matter how great the bass looks, if the headstock doesn't work from a design perspective it's a non-starter. The five string looks way better. 1 Quote
franzbassist Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 They look great. Are they made in the US? I assume not at those prices? Quote
LeftyJ Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 (edited) Assembled in the US, with many parts (including the necks) made in China. Edited September 10, 2024 by LeftyJ Quote
tauzero Posted November 2, 2024 Author Posted November 2, 2024 They are doing a headless option, but it's actually a headed bass without the holes drilled in the headstock for the tuners and presumably with some sort of headless bridge. It does take weight away from the headstock and gives most of the advantages of a true headless but there's still a headstock that you can accidentally stick through the rehearsal room ceiling or into the guitarist's ear, as opposed to doing these things entirely deliberately. Bodies are either paulownia or mahogany [1]. Thin flame maple top is around £150 more than solid colour for either body wood. https://klosguitars.com/products/carbon-fiber-5-string-bass [1] Cue tonewood thread Quote
AndyTravis Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 The headstock looks loads better. seems they’ve gone 3+1 for the 4 string? 1 Quote
dub_junkie Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Prices for the five are showing as starting at almost double what it cost me for my Apollo 4 string including import costs. Bit gutted as was told these would be a few hundred more. Ah well one less thing to worry about having to save for. Every cloud.... Quote
markorbit Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 (edited) Just getting interested in these, especially the V. Sadly what constitutes 'affordable' these days is still fairly pricey. Watched lots of youtube demos and I think they sound good. I've always liked carbon necks for their clarity and consistency. I quite like the 4 string micro-headstock with the straight string pull. I also like the G&L can-opener. The Klos Apollo reminds me of a cross between Status, Dingwall and EBMM. Only thing I'm not sure about is the carbon pickguard and knobs (on the custom) but they could be changed. I'd probably go passive. Edited November 5, 2024 by markorbit Quote

There's a couple of coupon codes that they've sent out so you can get $700 off the price. Quote
dub_junkie Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Ah cheers Mike yes I now see the one for $500. Will have another look. Have you placed an order? Keir Quote

Keir No, while the wolf's not at the door, I'm being cautious with funds, plus I'm not sure how many body parts Mrs Zero would remove. Plus I'd like to try one before buying one. There's a $500 coupon for custom instruments (ie 5-strings) and also an early bird $200 coupon EARLYBIRD24 for orders placed in a range of dates which I presume are in the stupid American date format, 7th to 12th November (otherwise it's 11th July to 11th December which seems unlikely). 1 Quote
markorbit Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 I didn't think you could use two discount codes but you can. It makes the price for the stock five-string an attractive £2070.29 and that supposedly includes import duties and taxes. There are only 4 days left for the additional discount code. Tempting. Quote
binky_bass Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 The 6 string with a flame top and 5 band EQ comes to a shade over £2000 using the discount codes, not investigated shipping though... tempting, but as I've never played one its too much of a role of the dice, that and I don't have a spare £2000! Shipping & duties will add around £500 by my reckoning. Quote
