chris_b
Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, Aretha, Chic and the studio labels such as Stax, Muscle Shoals, Atlantic and Malaco.
Mykesbass
R&B - is that Jam & Lewis era and later, or as Chris suggests above, Stax, Muscle Shoals, Malaco?

Don’t know any of them so probably not !! More Motown / R&B / Pop Soul
diskwave
Ditto all the above, and dont forget, dial the bass back, dime the low mids a bit and crank the volume, and you'll have feet on the floor for ever. Good luck.

More Motown / R&B / Pop Soul OK, so it will be the Stax/Atlantic/Muscle Shoals styles then. To break yourself in (as it is as much about the feel as it is about the complexity of the parts) I'd suggest some Wilson Pickett tracks, as their basslines for me (and I'll probably get ripped to shreds for saying this) are a little more obvious than some of the other artists in this style (Otis Redding for example). @Reggaebass has already sent you in the right direction for Motown. Have fun - some great stuff to work on.

Barking Spiders
I used to play in a function band covering Solar artists like Shalamar and The Whispers, the Philly Sounds e.g. O Jays, Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes plus KC & The Sunshine Bad, Sat Night Fever and stuff from the Chic stable. Tracks that used to be really popular were And The Beat Goes On (Whispers), There It Is (Shalamar), Disco Inferno (Trammps), Jive Talkin' and Lost in Music (Sister Sledge). Great stuff for the bass player and not a single slap in sight ...or sound. Only hassle is finding singers with good enough chops. BassAdder60
Looks like the new project are aiming more towards soft rock / pop / R&B styles with a touch of soul perhaps Edited September 11 by BassAdder60
tauzero
We weren't too bothered about whether the original had a male or a female vocalist. Mrs Zero was our vocalist. https://lightning.tauzero.org.uk/songs.html
