FS: Lakland USA 44/64 USA Series 'Bob Glaub' P/J
£1950
Wickford, Essex

For sale only (I'm not interested in trades, sorry).

A Lakland USA Series 44/64 'Bob Glaub' Signature P/J bass in Olympic White.

Purchased from @three of this parish about 4 years ago, this is a beautiful example of a discontinued signature edition from Lakland.

It's in great condition with a couple of few small marks here and there which were present when I bought it. I've highlighted the most significant one in the photos. Other marks are very difficult to photograph and so minor as to be insignificant. To my mind, they are just as a result of it being played, swirling of the pick guard etc.

It's wearing flats at the moment, which I have to say, suit it very well indeed.

It weighs in at 8.9lbs on my luggage scales and has a jazz type neck with a nut width a shade under 38mm. The neck is extremely comfortable and the action is medium low, being my preference.

I seem to remember it was a lot lower when I received it.

It comes with a Lakland tweed hard case.

I'd rather not ship it, but I'm happy to have a conversation about it if you're interested in the bass.

Any questions just ask away.

A wonderful bass and indeed, the neck is sublime - US Lakland necks are for me the finest of all to be found on super Js/Ps.  As suggested above, this bass will take an incredibly low action.  I doubt anybody could be disappointed and this bass was only sold as I'd moved to short-scale almost exclusively

Can attest to the neck thing. I had one of these (which popped on Bass Bros recently). I used the neck profile as the basis for my Shuker build too.

I've got an identical bass to this one, albeit in a different colour. Since I took delivery of it over twelve years ago it has been my go-to bass, and I've got some very nice basses.

The chaps at Lakland told me that they used a very slim 1963 Fender Jazz Bass neck as the template for the neck shape on these USA PJ basses. The fact that it's also quarter sawn with graphite reinforcement makes it very stable, and the birdseye maple dots are a nice touch too.

Definitely up there with the very best Fender-style basses you can buy.

Thanks for that. I was a little unsure about the wood they used for the dots, but now you've said it, it's obvious. They do look very nice indeed.

I didn't know about the '63 they modelled it on either. I bet that's a special bass.

Given all the above, anyone would be perfectly justified in asking 'if it's that good, why are you selling it?'.

Well, I'm knocking on the door of 60 (mid 30's by Basschat standards) and I have a lot of very nice basses here, many of which are just being stored.

The ones that don't see daylight are most likely never going to, unless I sell them.

I gig quite a bit, but my Shuker is my go to and I also have another very nice Lakland Bob Glaub 44-64 P (also from @three) to back that up.

P.S. Don't start getting any ideas @Chiliwailer and @molan - the Modulus and the Ritter aren't part of the culling 😎

You'll be the first to know if that happens 👍.

I have a USA Lakland J with a custom Sims paint job. It’s actually the only bass allowed in the house by my wife and it hangs proudly on the wall in the dining room.

I’d agree that the necks on these really are fabulous. I’d gig this one but it has an East pre-amp, which I really don’t like, and it’s simply too heavy for me these days 😭
