FrankM Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Hi, I just bought a second hand Ibanez UB804 EUB and I would like to learn to bow it. No point spending more than the absolute minimum on a bow though as: 1. I don't know if I will like it 2. If I do, it'll be used not very often at all Not looking to spend more than UK £ 50 to 100 tops. What should I for? Quote
NickA Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Look on eBay ..but with caution. Best to buy 2nd hand off someone upgrading but you don't want something that needs mending or re hairing ( it would cost more than the bow) Maybe best to get a safe new bow from a reputable dealer; Caswells: https://caswells-strings.co.uk/product/student-double-bass-bow/ Bassbags: https://www.bassbags.co.uk/product/hidersine-bow-double-bass-3-4-brazilwood/?v=7885444af42e Avoid "composite" bows ( fibreglass, sometimes.with a metal rod inside). Though cheaper carbon bows are ok..maybe not for under £100. At this price probably go for wood. Quote
tinyd Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I bought a bow from this seller when my daughter played DB on recommendation from her teacher https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/yitamusicviolins I only play pizz so I can't vouch for them directly but it seems fine Quote
