DDR Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I know someone is asking this question the other way round... I basically find the jazz neck uncomfortable, too small, strings too close... But I like the pickup config! So makes sense to me that ther should be pickup configs with the P neck ... Anyone know if there are? If so, what/where? Thanks! D Quote
Beedster Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I have two, one fretted and one fretless, both bitsas, both very nice, I’ll post some pics at the weekend 👍 1 Quote
Beedster Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Not sure if any wide-necked Jazzes are manufactured however 🤔 Quote
Obrienp Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 (edited) You can spec a Maruszczyk Elwood with a wider nut width. Someone was selling one on BC recently. I’m guessing it was a P profile neck, as on their Jake. Probably cheaper to put a P neck on a Jazz, or make a bitsa. Edited September 19, 2024 by Obrienp 2 Quote
Si-Fi Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 (edited) My 83 JV jazz with Mighty Mite P neck. I love jazz bodies but can't get on with the necks. I love a Precision to of course. Edited September 19, 2024 by Si-Fi 1 1 Quote
Beedster Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I am of course inviting a load of flak by saying it, but I find that compared to a skinny neck, a nice a beefy Precision neck adds a little heft to the Jazz tone 👍 1 1 Quote

Paul S Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Squier Silver Series Jazz had a 40mm neck. Not that they pop up that frequently. Quote
fretmeister Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I think Fender now sell necks with the "wrong" bass model on for this purpose. They definitely do one that says Precision but is Jazz profile now. Quote
Jono Bolton Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 The Fender Mark Hoppus bass is a P neck on a Jazz body, but it's got a P pickup in it. Putting a Jazz neck on a Precision is quite a common mod; maybe buy a Jazz and find someone to swap necks with? 1 Quote
Grooverjr Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 As others have said it's easy enough to do with Fender / Squier as the necks are basically the same. I bought a Fender P neck to put on my old Squier J and it does fit but it has taken a lot of mucking around to get it to set up just right so it would.probablu be wiser to avoid the old.atyle.heel adjust truss rod if you are going that route. I love the result, though. Plays great and no.noticeable.increase in neck dive 1 Quote
BreadBin Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I have two J bodied bass guitars, they both have the correct width (42mm) nuts as I also struggle with J necks. I also have a very early non-export PJ555 Boxer from Japan, it turns out that the first ones used a P profile neck too which worked out well for me! 1 Quote
itu Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 My travel bass is a J body and an MM Status neck. One EMG DC (dual coil) neck pickup. It may look slightly different, but who cares, it feels good. 1 Quote
