Struggling between what bass I should buy.

Hello everyone just a silly one just if anyone has any advice for me.

So I own a 70s Avon rose jazz bass which is beautiful and is everything I want In a jazz bass. I love the Motown and smooth sound and I prefer the tone of the I think neck pickup over the p bass. Controversial I know. but I listen to all music punk, metal, ska, jazz, prog rock, goth, post punk, synth pop, pop, hip hop, Motown, funk really all music and the jazz bass is amazingly versatile but still sometimes not fitting to some music I play. For a reference my biggest bass influences are j j burnel from the stranglers,Paul McCartney and the general feel of funk and Motown. So just quite simple but hard hitting and needed bass.

So I’m struggling what I should buy as my second bass I’m stuck between a stingray type as I love the sound and automatic rhythm which seems to come with it  and a 5 string because the crazy bass is just what I want. I leaning more towards the 5 string but I’m still not sure I’m not currently in a band so that’s less of a problem but any questions or advice that you can think of would be crazily helpful.

Anyway thanks for reading my overly drawn on questions.

TLDR Can’t make my mind up between a stingray and 5 string.

Hi Bef, although I’m pretty much a fender jazz and precision guy I can recommend having a look through the Yamaha range, I’ve got a 5 string and a 4 , the build quality is very good and range of tones you can get I’d say would cover anything you wanted to play , reasonably priced too

If you already got a sensible bass then I would go crazy, scratch that itch .  I got my crazy, its this one - 5 string, fan fret, headless active, no regrets!  Its probably not a bad idea if you live near a major city then go to guitarguitar or whatever and try everything, you might click with something unexpected

To my ears a lot of stuff can do a pretty good stingray impression, depending on your budget.

I am still getting used to it but am probably about to switch to playing my 5 string in the band, it gives you more options playing things de-tuned, so if you don't have one it might be handy
