TC Electronic IR loader question

HI,

 

I've just bought the TC IR loader and have loaded the 3Sigma Double Bass patches.

 

They sound great, but the question I have is related to battery life of this pedal.

 

I used it so far with two new 9V alkaline batteries and both gave out after just a few minutes use. (I then tried them on other pedals and they work fine).

I've ordered a lithium battery to see if that makes a difference, but at £10 as a starting price, it'll get expensive if it doesn't last a long, long time, like most pedals do...... 

 

Does anyone have any experience of hungry power usage also, or maybe I have a defective pedal?  I've tried looking online but not a single review that I can see, mentions anything about it wither way.

IME most digital devices will burn through batteries at a rate that makes using them without a mains PSU unfeasible.
