101rob88 Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Hi all, I'm thinking of buying a bass guitar. I've not played any any instrument for 25 years after giving up the clarinet at age 11! I've found this on facebook market place and I love the colour. The seller doesn't know the model number, can anyone tell me what kind of bass it is, if it would be ok for an asolute beginner and if paying the asking price I'm having my pants pulled down! https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2723010471198671?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A02beed3e-77cc-4e27-9d4a-3068c801c43a Thank you! Mikey D Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Stagg BC300 https://en.audiofanzine.com/electric-fretted-bass/stagg/heavy-series-bc300-pink/user_reviews/ Quote
101rob88 Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 (edited) Of course, sorry! Other than Stagg, I'm lost! The quoted price is £125, this is around the budget I was considering until I decide its the hobby for me! Edited October 1, 2024 by 101rob88 missed off price Quote

ezbass Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 It's a Stagg Fusion model and is also available in short scale (30") and that does look like it might be a SS. Price seems OK (eBay have a couple around the £135-£200 mark). Stagg stuff is entry level, but normally quite serviceable. Short scales aren't a bad place to start and there is a real trend towards folk using them more and more, myself included. Quote
lemmywinks Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Ebay sold listings suggest £40-£100 so probably a bit overpriced. Stagg were a budget brand from years back, I'd be looking at a new Harley Benton or something like that. 1 Quote
meterman Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 I remember the Stagg short scale BC300's being about £159 - £179 when they first came out. Confusingly there was a 34" scale version too but the short scale ones were really good for the money. Only ever saw those in black and natural. Bright pink is a new one on me! Quote
James Nada Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 For a £125 budget I'd suggest a new Squier Debut Precision bass. https://amzn.eu/d/4ADqi4e From what I've read it's a decent bass for the price. Direct from Amazon and a choice of Sunburst, Black or Red. If you didn't know, Squier is the budget brand of Fender. As someone else mentioned, Harley Benton is a great option for a beginner bass, probably better than the Squier and a little cheaper, however I think the relative ease at which you could resell a Squier if playing bass isn't for you, is a big plus. jd56hawk Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 As mentioned above, Harley Benton. You can buy a brand new one for that price. 3 Quote
Grahambythesea Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Stagg is not a brand that is well considered. It’s generic for all sorts of instruments made in the far east and badged Stagg. For £150 look on the marketplace here for a brand that is a guitar maker. Many instruments are made by far east factories and then badged but QC by the brand. Quote
lemmywinks Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 A used Cort GB35 (or a GB54 if you get lucky) can often be had for a similar price as well. This is an absolute steal if you're local: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3808653296123817/ Quote
