RSV60
I bought an Overwater 4 string J bass from 2018, it got bartolini pickups with a J-tone 2 band EQ Preamp, but i found out that there has been fumbled with the preamp. The Passive/Active knob has been altered into a kill switch. Has anybody a wiring diagram of the outlet jack and the Passive/active pull knob/switch? Thx Jack
lemmywinks
I would just message East, their support is pretty good.
RSV60
I figured out the wiring. The problem with the passive/active pull knob is ok now. played for a week fine. But today, in active position i only get an disturbed noise. I noticed that the former owner has put some cardboard and tape on the electronics when i inspected it, so i removed that. Now i have put back the tape and cardboard and i get a normal active tone. So the tape and cardboard, were for putting pressure on the upper circuit board (with the " two plastic adjustable wheels") The bottom circuit board has an epoxy layer at the bottum as standard, so i cannot check the connections. Is there a way to fix this, or do i need to order a new preamp? i feel disappointed, bought an expensive bass, which was told " hardly been played on" Edited October 9 by RSV60
Beedster
First I would absolutely message John East, he is very helpful Second I would be a little annoyed if I bought a decent bass to find that the electrics had been bodged as appears to be the case, but..... It might not have been the seller who did this, on which basis the seller might be completely unaware of it. I'm one of those people who but a bass and within days pretty much take it apart to check it all over, but lots of people aren't, quite reasonably they just play it, and it it plays OK, everything's OK. Either way, might be worth having a chat with them also, good luck 👍
lemmywinks
If there needs to be a piece of card pushing against something for it to make a good contact then tt's probably just a solder joint that needs reflowing. Take the card out and lightly push against different components to see what makes a difference, starting with that capacitor then the pickup trim pots as they would be most affected by the card/tape bodge. Probably still worth messaging John East to see what he says.
RSV60
Thanks for your reply, i think John is busy at the moment🙃 Maybe the preamp is too old? However i could not wait so I have made the 4 connections of the circuit with the two pots liquid again with a soldering iron. It sounds OK for now. So maybe i fixed it (although i could not find any bad solder joints). If it turns bad again, maybe the next step is a new preamp 😔
