Anybody playing with Udio or other AI music generating software ?

Recommended Posts

I've been having great fun using Udio software to generate songs from my own or copilot assisted lyrics. The results can be awful but some are quite impressive. As this evolves you can see how it is going to change the way music is made ,whether this is for better or worse I'm not sure, but it is sure cool having a proper singer belting out my lyrics given I only play on my own at home.

Here's a couple of samples - they aren't Bohemian Rhapsody by any means but took less than 5 minutes to create and not too shabby (IMHO 😀).

I tried it, messing about for an hour or so with it, but could get nothing finalised. Maybe I just didn't understand the options and stuff that were presented (I signed up, but didn't pay anything; maybe that's the difference..?). I tried another one (can't remember what it was called...), but had no luck with that, either. I certainly found it all to be so confusing, with terms that I'm not familiar with. Too old..? Possibly (probably..?). :|

I've been using Suno (I have no idea how it compares to Udio) to write daft lyrics then turn them into songs. A friend and I are having a right old comedy tennis match sending each other mad songs. It's bloody great! I don't really look at it as making music though, just a fun computer game.

I just do it on my phone from the site, not via an app. Takes about 10 minutes with hilarious results.

It would be nice to have an AI composition challenge on here but it doesn't look like many people are using it yet.

I've put one up for the BC Composition Challenge, to see what, if any, guide-lines need to be put in place. I managed to produce something, but to retrieve the stems of the AI stuff, it needs payment, which I'm not willing to do (yet...). Not bad as an exercise, but nowhere near as satisfying as my 'home-grown' stuff. B|

As a completely separate entity to an analog/ samples/Midi and digital instrumentation composition challenge that we currently engage in , it might stand up if there was enough interest in it I guess.

I do think there should be a line drawn between a challenge that participants actually compose for, and one where a computer does it all from some written prompts.

One thing I did pick up on is AI vocals for singing, I’m wondering if that is a thing I could use for my tracks.
I do get tired belting out a tune sometimes , and while I’m sure AI won’t get near to my style and phrasing , never mind timbre and tonality, it might be a good starting point if I am short on time for singing a perfect vocal take.

Anyone who thinks they're composing by typing a few prompts into an AI generator is just a little wide of the mark, no? It would be a grave mistake to mix it into the existing competition.

I completely agree - its not the same thing at all and I'm assuming you aren't getting AI entries in the 'proper' composition challenge.

I was just suggesting it as a separate bit of fun.

Just got an email from Suno who have now removed the effort of even typing in a prompt to generate audio content

At Suno, we’ve been working on making song creation easier and more fun, from free text prompts to audio recordings. And now, we’re thrilled to bring a new mode of creation: visual storytelling.

With Suno Scenes, you can create unique songs straight from your camera. Whether it's a breathtaking landscape, a candid selfie, or a quick video of your daily life, Suno Scenes turns your favorite photos and videos into personalized soundtracks.
