Rehearsal amp options

For the last 15 years I've played a Tecamp Puma 350 into an S212 and I'm still very happy with it, but it lives upstairs in a wardrobe and I don't want to take the cab to practice every week.

 

The studio is very inconsistent.  I take my Puma 350, but depending on the room, I could be playing through an Ashdown 4x10, an unbranded 1x15, or have to play through numerous old combos. I'd like to get something I can rely on every week.

 

I'd like a one hand carry from the car to the studio (we're sometimes upstairs). So what are my options? We play pretty loud rock.

 

I've looked at 1x10 and 2x8 cabs. The Trace Elf cab seems ideal, but very expensive just for rehearsal. The Warwick Gnome 1x10 cabs are cheaper but can't handle the 350w at 4ohm or 250w at 8ohm. The TC Electronic cabs seem harder to find but similar spec to Warwick?  I could buy a Gnome amp and cab for less than the Trace, but us there anything else I should be looking at to.solve my problem?

I don't have the time, tools, or space to build one unfortunately. I don't put enough time into practicing, so I don't want to eat up any more of that time. That was part of my thinking with finding something small - less time getting out the house for band practice, but also something compact I could set up in the corner of a room for home practice.

Would a Fender Rumble 200 fit the bill?

Few 1x10 cabs will cut it in a band that plays "pretty loud rock", especially if you rehearse at or near gig volumes. The laws of physics and all that.

 

A quality 1x12 would be better, but you don't appear to want to spend much. As the saying goes, "Light, loud, cheap. Pick any two".

Lozz's suggestion got me looking at the Rumble, and happened to find an older Rumble 112 cab for £149 at Bass Bros. They say it's light, and it handles 250w at 8ohm. That's got to be worth a try!

There's plenty of single cab solutions on the used market for under £400. I had the same issue as you, just needed a compact one hand carry cab for rehearsals as the provided equipment was inconsistent, plus our regular rehearsal space has extra gear in a storage room and to get to a decent cab I'd have to shift tons of heavy gear out of the way (had to lift two old Trace cabs and an two ancient power amps with their own centre of gravity last time) which defeats the object! Ended up with a PJB C8L off here for £360.

 

There's a couple of Epifani cabs in the classifieds for under £200 each, also a Markbass 2x10 for £245.
