I've currently got that PC running Kodi as my share, but I'm in the process of replacing the defunct innards of a Naim Unitiserve with a more up to date Mini-ITX mobo to act as a share/ripper. My main HiFi is a Naim NDX streamer via a Hi-Line interconnect into olive 82/Supercap pre-amp and 250 power-amp, and Linn Kaber speakers; I also plan to get an XPS2 for the NDX, as my CDS's XPS won't drive the NDX. I very much like your taste in audio equipment! 1 Quote

Cheers! Since then, I've bought a Teddy XPS and had my 250 serviced - crikey it sound good! Some day I'll get a 52 pre-amp... I haven't yet listened to my CDS2, but may do over the weekend; it should beat the NDX. Quote

To get both, you have to upgrade to the CD & vinyl SDE which is another $300 on top of the $100 for the standard edition. I can only assume, given the audio content, very few would buy the SDE unless there was something 'exclusive' to lure them in. All digital content in stereo only as far as I can tell. Undoubtedly, there will be several with spare cash that won't think twice about it. I've bought every Rush SDE to date, but I'm having trouble justifying this one. Suprprisingly , I won't invest in any of it . If I have second thoughts , I'd get the download . Too many cash grabs from them lately . It'll probably appear on you tube at some point. The other thing is when buying CDs of certain bands of late , there are various cd versions which come in book format . I'm struggling to keep up with all the digipack editions etc ,and finding places to put them is becoming a pain. Quote

All I’ll say in their defence is that the Rush 40th SDE’s are a thing of beauty. Really well put together, as I’m sure these are, but the 50 releases lack any significant content to justify the price. YMMV of course. 1 Quote

I will cite the XTC/Tears For Fears boxes here (again), but with all these - obviously original albums aside - you do genuinely seem to get a ton of bonus audio material bundled in, in the shape of demos, unreleased, 5.1/Atmos mixes and all fairly reasonably priced. Dare I say it, I feel a bit disgusted at the route that Rush are going with their reissue program. How many times can you resell/repackage material? Most of these albums have been expanded and reissued in the last decade. Does anyone really need a comic book? Does anyone need to shell out $400 for maybe six (exclusive) recordings. Perhaps Ged needs the swag to bolster his wine collection or baseball ephemera. I'm holding out for the $1,500 wax cylinder edition in a limited edition picnic basket, with a Snow Dog action figure. Save your money. Take the missus out for a nice dinner instead. 1 Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Totally agree about the Rush cash grabs .. I have all their catalogue on remasters CDs . They were about £ 6 or so when I purchased them . I did get a couple of their digipacks ( 2112/ hemispheres) but that's it I made the " mistake" of selling vinyl albums for CDs back in the '80s/'90s.( not all of them thankfully) . I have since Re purchased most of the Rush ones on vinyl ,and have now stopped . The last vinyl I got was the Atlantic/Rhino Box set ,which tidied up the loose ends so to speak . The Geddy Lee Book of Bass and the Album Artwook books are good imho . So many bands doing the same thing following suit. My effin life indeed . I got bored of that audiobook half way through . I don't fancy my effin socks or underwear either 😮💨 It seems I've finally stopped being over obsessive with stuff at last 😬 Depends on your tastes etc, but the 3 best deluxe editions for me ; The 2Tangerine Dream cd albums and Celtic Frost Vinyl box set. Anyway , as you were 🙂.. Quote
prowla Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I've got the Rush "Studio Recordings" box sets (from around 2014) and they had HD versions of some of the albums, which are quite good. I also prefer/collect the "mini-LP" versions of CDs versus the jewel-case and digipack ones, so they ticked that (ahem) box. I am slowly picking up HD versions of albums, be they DVD/Blu-Ray or from HD Tracks; some of them are better to my ears, but others aren't much of an improvement (Black Sabbath's mixes have Ozzy too loud and the drums lost, whilst Led Zeppelin's are a bit too trebly). I have to say the Giles Martin remixes of The Beatles albums are really worth checking out (on plain CD). Quote

Naim amps and Linn speakers, my favourite combination from the golden age of British hifi. Edited January 29 by Misdee 2 Quote
hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted January 30 Posted January 30 The upcoming Fleetwood Mac boxed set serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever that I can see. Old remasters (only 6 mind) on clear vinyl for £150. No thanks. Quote
hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted January 30 Posted January 30 ....and then we have the room to be released Roger Waters TDSOTM Redux for £220. Think you missed the boat on that one Roger. Quote
